EMS Air Flow Q & A

What is EMS® Air Flow and guided biofilm therapy?

EMS Air Flow is an advanced treatment system developed by Swiss manufacturer EMS Dental. It uses a fine spray of warm water and Erythritol PLUS powder to deep clean your tooth enamel above and below the gumline.

EMS Air Flow is much more effective than a traditional dental cleaning. It safely eradicates plaque, tartar, and harmful bacteria, helping you achieve a bright, white, and healthy smile.

What are the benefits of EMS Air Flow and guided biofilm therapy?

EMS Air Flow and guided biofilm therapy offer various benefits, including:

  1. Increased confidence
  2. Immediate results
  3. Pain-free
  4. Removes plaque and debris
  5. Tackles severe stains and buildup

EMS Air Flow is also affordable. In fact, some insurance policies provide coverage.

What happens during EMS Air Flow and guided biofilm therapy?

EMS Air Flow and guided biofilm therapy begin with a review of your dental records and a comprehensive oral exam. During the exam, Dr. Blaustein assesses your teeth to identify areas of concern. Then, he applies a colored dye to your teeth that highlights the plaque and tartar buildup.

After the dye dries, Dr. Blaustein uses the EMS Air Flow –– a handheld device –– to carefully remove plaque and tartar from the surfaces of your teeth and underneath your gums.

During treatment, the EMS Air Flow doesn’t make direct contact with your teeth. Even so, you might experience mild pressure or a warming sensation due to the combination of cleaning powder and water.

After cleaning your teeth, Dr. Blaustein shows you before and after photos to illustrate the difference. He also teaches you how to brush and floss properly, to prevent the buildup from returning.

Is EMS Air Flow treatment painful?

Treatment with the EMS Air Flow is safe and typically well-tolerated. The system has a built-in feature called PIEZON® no-pain technology.

PIEZON is an intelligent feedback system that detects changes in pressure during teeth cleaning treatment. The machine responds to those changes by increasing or decreasing the vibration of Dr. Blaustein’s scaling tool.

How long does EMS Air Flow treatment take?

At Chelsea Dental Aesthetics, EMS Air Flow treatment takes about 30 minutes.* To make the process more enjoyable, Dr. Blaustein offers Erythritol PLUS powder in several flavors, including mint and cherry.
